Position: Staff Engineer (Entry to Early Career)

Group: Laser Instrumentation

Job Description
We are seeking a Staff Engineer with experience in optical systems for physical sensing and measurement. The role involves supporting optical instrument system development projects, primarily laser ultrasonic systems (LUT) for various applications, as well as advanced spectroscopy tools like cavity ring-down.

Development of optical instrument systems at IOS involves multiple disciplines, including optics, mechanics, electronics, materials science, physics, among others. This position seeks an individual with the knowledge, experience, and skills to contribute to our projects and who understands the scientific and engineering principles of the multiple disciplines converging on optical instrument system development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support design, assembly, and testing of optical sensing systems (laser probes, receivers, spectrometers, fiber-optic devices)
  • Contribute to experimental design, perform measurements
  • Analyze and thoroughly understand the experimental data collected, calculate analytical parameters and extract relevant information (generate high quality plots, figures, tables, statistics, etc.)
  • Maintain precise, accurate, and up-to-date records of experiments performed
  • Participate in and contribute to Research and Development meetings
  • Design, assemble, and maintain testing setups
  • Prepare for and participate in instrumentation deployment in the field
